5 April 2023 — Architecture exhibition open call opportunity Scotland + Venice 2023

Open Call: A creative promotional response to the themes of A Fragile Correspondence

We are looking to commission a writer or creative of any medium to create a promotional response to the themes of A Fragile Correspondence, a collateral event for the 18th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia created by the Architecture Fringe, ism magazine and /other, and commissioned by the Scotland + Venice partnership.

A Fragile Correspondence asks how can a closer relationship between land and language help architecture be more attuned to the environment in which it operates. We’re looking to commission a piece reflecting on the exhibition and the wider project.
You can read more about the themes of the exhibition on the Scotland + Venice website.

Although the geographic focus of the exhibition will be Highland, Island and Lowland areas in Scotland, we welcome global perspectives and are interested to hear from those who have thoughts on how an exploration of language and land can shape our response to the climate crisis.

Since most of our audience in Scotland won’t be able to see the exhibition in Venice, our aim is to have this commissioned response as a way for people to critically engage with the themes of the exhibition from wherever they are in the world. To reach the broadest possible audience, the piece should be accessible and created to provoke dialogue around the different themes.
We would then work with the selected creative to pitch the work to the publications or platforms they regularly file for or would want to see their work represented in, as well as pitching to national Scottish and UK publications and hosting the work on the Scotland + Venice website.

We are particularly keen to commission under-represented voices and we are open to submissions from people outside of Scotland.

How to apply: Please submit a 100-word proposal outlining how you plan to creatively respond to the themes, including topic and medium, plus any relevant links to your portfolio, website and social media channels. We would also appreciate details on where you would like to see this work eventually featured. Please email proposals to hannahk@thecornershoppr.com by Friday 21 April.

This is a commission by The Corner Shop PR, in partnership with the Scotland + Venice partnership. Entries will be judged by The Corner Shop PR and members of the Scotland + Venice Communications Partnership Group

Deadline for 100 word proposal: Friday 21 April
Selection announcement: Friday 28 April

Project completion: negotiable date between May-November 2023 (while exhibition is open in Venice)
Remuneration: £500
